Driven Racing Oil — high-zinc, built for flat-tappet air-cooled engines. Modern off-the-shelf oil has had its ZDDP stripped out to protect catalytic converters. Great for a 2020 daily driver, rough on a 50-year-old cam and lifters.
Mann filter — German-made, the same filter these cars came with.
OE crush gasket — fresh copper every time, torqued once, no seeping on your garage floor.

The Type 4 is air-cooled, so the oil is doing double duty — lubricating and carrying heat out. It works harder than oil in a water-cooled car, and it's the cheapest insurance you can buy for an engine that isn't getting easier to rebuild.
